news story from 1967

1967: Israel ends six-day war
Fighting in the Middle East has ended after Israel finally observed the UN ceasefire and halted her advance into Syria.
Within the last six days Israeli troops have taken territory many times larger than Israel itself and united the holy city of Jerusalem for the first time since 1948.

Israeli Prime Minister Levi Eshkol justified the pre-emptive strike on Egypt, and battles with Jordanian and Syrian forces by saying his country was acting in self-defence.

He told the Sunday Times newspaper: "The threat of destruction that hung over Israel since its establishment and which was about to be implemented has been removed."

He added: "For the first time in 19 years, Jews are again free to pray at the Wailing Wall and at other shrines sacred to Judaism in Jerusalem and Hebron."

Nasser to stay in office

There was good news and bad news for Egyptians.

Having decided to resign yesterday after his country's humiliating defeat, President Abdel Nasser today announced he would in fact remain in office.

This brought thousands of Egyptians out onto the streets of Cairo and other Arab cities cheering and rejoicing. In an address to the Assembly, relayed by loudspeaker to the crowds outside, he said: "I will give the nation everything I have, even my life itself."

But this was tempered by reports from Cairo Radio that Israeli bombing raids of the Suez Canal had left it blocked with sunken ships, a further blow to the nation's economy.

Meanwhile the Soviet Union - which has broken off diplomatic relations with Israel - and its Eastern Bloc allies have agreed a plan to re-supply Arab forces with armaments.

oh ----. sry i confused the 6 day war with the 6th of october war..

so everything i said happend.. it just happend later on on the 6th of october war

sry about the mix up.

but what i said still stands. egypt > israel anyday :P

why do u think the egyptians have sinai and they control the canal?

egypt broke through israeli defenses and pushed into israel. but stopped when they didnt get the go ahead.

6 day war. 6th of october war. an honest mistake

The Yom Kippur War, Ramadan War or October War (Hebrew: מלחמת יום הכיפורים; transliterated: Milkhemet Yom HaKipurim or מלחמת יום כיפור Milkhemet Yom Kipur; Arabic: حرب أكتوبر; transliterated: ħarb October or حرب تشرين transliterated: ħarb Tishrin), also known as the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, was fought from October 6 to October 26, 1973, between Israel and a coalition of Arab nations led by Egypt and Syria. The war began on the day of Yom Kippur with a surprise joint attack by Egypt and Syria. They invaded the Sinai and Golan Heights, respectively, which had been captured by Israel in 1967 during the Six-Day War.[2]

The Egyptians and Syrians advanced during the first 24–48 hours, after which momentum began to swing in Israel's favor. By the second week of the war, the Syrians had been pushed entirely out of the Golan Heights. In the Sinai to the south, the Israelis had struck at the "seam" between two invading Egyptian armies, crossed the Suez Canal (where the old ceasefire line had been), and cut off an entire Egyptian army just as a United Nations cease-fire came into effect.

The war had far-reaching implications for many nations. The Arab world, which had been humiliated by the lopsided defeat of the Egyptian-Syrian-Jordanian alliance during the Six-Day War, felt psychologically vindicated by its string of victories early in the conflict. This vindication paved the way for the peace process that followed, as well as liberalizations such as Egypt's infitah policy. The Camp David Accords which came soon after led to normalized relations between Egypt and Israel—the first time any Arab country had recognized the Israeli state. Egypt, which had already been drifting away from the Soviet Union, then left the Soviet sphere of influence almost entirely.

So uh, where is the genocide?

If Bush is so much like Hitler then why aren't we killing off Illegal Immigrants as they jump the fence, and then all their cousins on this side of the border that are legal.

You think Hitler would allow Jews to jump the German border and mooch off the welfare system?

Yeah...he'd let them jump the border, then they could jump their *** right into a concentration camp if they even made it that far.

The thing is that Bush is only doing what the American people wanted him to do. Even John Kerry wanted him to go into Iraq. Do you think Kerry would have made a different decision about that? What about ANY Democratic candidate? What would we be saying about them right now. So all of the sudden it's THEIR fault that we are at war when Congress gave us the go ahead.

The war is NOT a result of ONLY one person, whoever believes that these wars are the result of Bush and Bush only..well...you're tainted.

Government is a nescessary evil at best, and unbearable at worst. When there's a nation wide revolt / rebellion then I will believe that our Government is shitty to the point of being unbearable.
