Making the limitation a restrictor makes it more intersting than making it a cubic inch restriction. the key is the place ment and dsign of the intake and runners. CFD programs canhelp with that. they only cost like 20 grand
The intake restriction forces car designers to make their cars weigh less and handle better instead of make more power. Kinda lame IMO.

Heh, 10 hp will destroy the competition. This competition is not just about power, it's about an all around racecar, compare it to a miniature F1. They don't just focus on power. Weight and handling are extremely huge factors as well. One of the reasons lots of the team members don't like the turbo is because of the weight it adds (~20-25 lbs for the system) compared to the torque gains and improved HP curve. I aim to disprove them next year and show them a turbo is the way to go. I am currently basing this on my love for turbos, turbofreakiness if you will, so I don't know what will happen. I could do dozens of hours of research only to scrap the project, but this whole thing is about learning (and having fun and destroying the competition, which we usually do)

I go to uw-platteville and we have also played with the idea of a turbo many times. With the 60mm restrictor a small turbo is your only option even though it revs high it doesnt flow much air. The problem is that you get a huge pressure drop right after the restrictor and it looses tons of efficiency. The ammount of psi you need at the turbo is many times higher than the ammount of psi you will see after the restrictor. When we did our calculations we couldnt reasonably flow enough air to make the extra weight worth it. BTW we run a 600cc CBR motor.

jago.... does your team compete against cornell? i have a friend who is on their team..... apperently they have won the past five years in a row. they just finished fabricating their chassis and have the motor installed and running.
