Cheap Carbon Fiber Hood.

Where is the cheapest place to get a carbon fiber hood. It would be for a 1997 Civic. 4-Door if that matters.

Leave on the hood thats on there, and use the money to turbocharge your car.

I think you can find it in the "RICE" isle in your local grocery store. its cheaper to buy it by the bag, not the box I have found.

just do what the euro's do and put a cf 'bonnet'. Basically just put a layer of cf on your stock hood. I'm sure they make them in stickers too.

Re:Cheap Carbon Fiber Hood.

Bahaha! :D Well man if you do go for a CF hood, don't buy just some cheapie. Take a look at VIS or JDMshit.com. Theres quite a few other "good" names that have a reputable business going. If you go with a cheap hood, they usually have a fiberglass underside ::), the edges are not rolled so it looks like ass, underneath the gel coat you can see mistakes from the person laying the carbon fiber weave (fray's, wrinkles etc.), and on alot of the cheap hoods the gel coat doesn't hold up too long if it's subject to the sun for long periods of time. You'll notice it start to get duller and duller.
So, if your seriously concidering a CF hood, look into spending a bit more for a quality piece. You'll be happier in the end. I also forgot to go into fitment issues :-\ but thats another story.

Re:Cheap Carbon Fiber Hood.

CF hood isn't worth it man. Even though I got mine for only $185. It'll start to fade, pain in the ass to take care of. When I first got it, I was getting pulled over like 3 times a week (I live in San Diego). Now that I took that ---- off, cops don't even take a second look my way anymore.

Breaker84 07-21-2004 06:42 PM

Re:Cheap Carbon Fiber Hood.

Oh yeah, by the way, I'm the dude with the CF hood that broke. I'll Get rid of it for a small price, and it's fixable.

Re:Cheap Carbon Fiber Hood.

Just remove the bracing underneath the hood, then primer it black and say it's carbon fiber : P

Re:Cheap Carbon Fiber Hood. *HMT has turned GAY*

Hey fags calm down now. I saw a thread on here before and was wondering where they could be found. I actually DO have a turbo and am working on turboing my car. I only need a few more things. My roomate is into show cars and thinks turbos are gay but whatever its his opinion. We basically have the exact same cars and he went with a body kit while i went with a turbo. He wants a hood for his car and i said i would try and find where to buy one(SEE THIS WOULD BE HELPING SOMEONE UNLIKE BASICALLY ALL OF YOU). Stop being gay before you even know what its for. This is something i would expect from a site like honda tech or something. God some days you gus are a bunch of fags. But please continue. If you know where to find a cheap one great. Ill pass the message along but the gayness can stop becuase its not like he will ever be on here to read your opinion of them. ::) And again its not your car its not your money why do you really care what he buys? I dont and ill end up buying him beer for the next month.

Maybe you should contact donald?

I read what you just typed and I don't remeber ----, so I stick with my first statement, go buy a cf "bonnet" and stick on the original hood, and since your "roommate" is all show, he won't care. And if he is all show, why would he get a cheap cf hood, don't "show" people like quality products?

rsmith2786 07-22-2004 02:33 AM

Re:Cheap Carbon Fiber Hood.

Well my "roomate" as you call him is a college student driving a CIVIC, a civic only goes so far being a show car and with college bills im sure you would understand that he cant spent 2k on a hood. He has a full body kit including a nice giant wing and some heavy ass rims but he really wants a CF hood. Screw this im sure he can figure out how to use google. But thank all of you for your maturity. Glad to see this site is about helping people who have questions.

I love this post! Props for putting everyone in their place! As far as cheap carbon fiber hoods, perhaps check ebay I know when I got mine there were a whole bunch on there, and yes I did say "mine". I like carbon fiber and could car less who doesn't. I hate altezza's but our roadways are full of them :P

As far as different grades of CF, it really does make a HUGE difference. I went with the cheap crappy one which is fine for my little project EK but I dont think it would pass for anything closs the show quality.

Where are you located? my friend has an on lince store and may be able to work a deal.

FiberImages look pretty good too. I love the vid where they run it over with a truck and trailer and you can't even tell.

Re:Cheap Carbon Fiber Hood.

i have a VIS hood on my car, its worth the extra money. (as far as carbon fiber goes) but i only replaced mine because my wife bashed up the front of my car, if your hood is fine, wouldnt recomend it. its 500 bucks, use it on something else.

Sure its for me then. I really dont care what you think and i dont see why it would matter either way. But thank you for your concern. I kinda like CF hoods but i dont have money to put in that category.

Re:Cheap Carbon Fiber Hood.

damn the dudge just called ya'll fags and people are still helping him.. I was expecting a flame out for sure.

I'm gonna say get one of those acrylic hoods instead, the see thru kind... or just get your basic fiberglass hood. CF is way over rated.

I was kinda being sarcastic. ;D If i could afford a body kit i still wouldnt buy one. I live in wisconsin.

kits are useless and gay.they serve no purpose.

Re:Cheap Carbon Fiber Hood.

Look how many useless posts there are in here. Its funny people didnt even want to post in here to help and the people that actually helped did it through PM's. Like they had to hide from the rest of you. Sure it cost more than what you gain but why do people buy art? Why should someone feel stupid for liking it? I still dont understand. I guess i should have looked on honda tech from the start. I dont really like H-T but it actually had the answers he needed. Thanks for the people who actually had something useful to add. Sad they couldnt do it in a public forum.

Why am i an idiot again? I saw on THIS SITE a place for cheap hoods. My roomate mentioned he was looking for one and i couldnt remember the site that had these and after not finding anything searching the forum i decided to ask as he is not a member. As for most people here into function and not form do you not like nice looking things?

PureCRXtasy 07-23-2004 08:45 PM

Re:Cheap Carbon Fiber Hood.

The whole deal is I'm sure most of us would be into function and form but can really only afford one over the other, so we choose speed instead of looks. Personally, I'd sport a carbon fiber hood with no qualms, but the $400 price tag for a good one is just as much as my whole turbo setup. I think most of the people here have that mentality and feel that choosing looks over speed is the antithesis of what this site is all about and so the flames start..
