Car declared Total Loss
 

I went to the shop today and they inspected my car.
Tomorrow there will be an official inspection of the car, but it is already declared Total loss....well it can be repaired, but it is economically total loss. The repairs cost more then the car is worth they say. So I'll get the money the car is worth. At least I know I'll get more then what I paid for plus I can stay with the car...so i'll just sell it to someone who can fix it cheap and buy me a new EG...I found one, but I hope it's still for sale when I get my money.

Generally you have the first right of salvage. So this means possibly you could buy it back at about 20% of the salvage. It is also possible that you could negotiate with them not to brand the car. This is what I did with my STi. I got the wreck back unbranded so I can put it back together and back on the road without a structural safety.

Course your local laws may differ...

yes I just bought it in november well at the end of november.
It isn't structurally totalled. It's just declared total loss because it's more expensive to fix it then the car's value. And I don't have to pay to get it back etc...It's already mine, I just get my money and my car.

Ahh man that really sucks about your car. Your car was just like mine same color and eveything except your car had a fat ass. At least your getting your money out of the car.

When my mom wrecked her hatch the insurance company said the same thing it was declared total loss. They paid her for what the car was worth and THEY kept the car. If she wanted it back she could have bought it back which we all told her to do but didnt and no she regrets it lol. Anyway thats the way it happened to us. Granted it might be different where your at but i dont see them giving a bunch of money and letting you keep the car. Usally the insurance company parts out the car to make some of there money back. But good luck and hope everything works out for ya.

Here it's different ShowPow anyway I'm getting the money from the insurance of the person that was responsable, not mine.
And If they would keep my car they would get it all stripped with a few DPFI parts thrown in.
I'm not going to give them my rims with MPFI swap and Momo steering wheel and my sub and amp...no way

This is true. The way they usually do it is that they pay you for the settlement less the owner retained salvage. Not 100% sure if it works the same in the US but here in Canada it would most likely be branded. That means it could not be re-registerred until the brand is lifted. To have a brand lifted you need to have a structural safety inspection where you submit a detailed analysis of the dammage with photos of how it was repaired. Then it gets titled as salvage - rebuilt. I know someone who did this and failed the structural because he didn't re-do the spot welds in exactly the same place! Just make sure you know what you're getting into here...
