calling all nerds A+ certification worth it?

---- the economy, just found out I'm getting laid off. The bad news is my job is very specific and I probably wont find a job in my field with all this ------- depression ---- going on. Anyway I am pretty nerdy and think i can pass the A+ certification test if i brush up on my computer skillz, my question is, is it worth it? the test seems pretty easy if u've been around computes all ur life....

Just go to the local truck stop. Still plenty of lonely truckers on the road.

A+ is a joke. anyone with a computer degree will laugh at you...

do yourself a favor, and go back to school. learn computers there. Certifications aren't everything if you have no education.

If you Have to get certified, get the RH033 cert, and othe rRH certs,

ccna and ccne are at the top of the list.

are you good at math?

qft I got my A+ in high school. Basically the only thing in that class that required any thought was binary to hex conversions.

A+ is only a requirement to get jobs like working at Circuit City.

AFAIK A+ has changed somewhere from 2002-2004, and its a lot more in depth than it ever was before. And who cares if its so easy to get - if thats true it should be on your resume

Re: calling all nerds A+ certification worth it?

A+ is good if you want a job at geek squad.

The reason its not a big deal is because anyone can spend a few days cramming and pass it ( i got mine in 2005 because it was required by my former job) but i don't think any of our desktop techs here have that ----, I mean you don't need to know which IRQ is for the floppy drive and what voltages every color wire in your power supply is anymore, you need to know how to reimage, replace peripherals and troubleshoot Microsoft applications.

like Kain said, if you want a valuable certification, get MCSE ( of which i believe A+ is required, lol) or CCNA/CCNP. You can't bullshit your way through cisco exams, you either know it or you don't.

A+ is only an entry certification. Just like Kain said, rhct , rhce, ccna, ccne will be something to really consider.
