Buying a welder, couple quick questions

I need to buy a welder for the sole purpose of welding charge pipes and a downpipe. I want one with a gas hookup so my welds don't look like birdshit. Here's what I have in mind:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=55247

My quick questions are, this is 115V so it plugs into a regular outlet right? And will this be able to do charge piping and a downpipe? Give me any info you can, and if there is a better one for around the same price show me and tell me why!

Thanks in advance

i dont kno everything there is to welding but i do kno that if it says flux mig then ur got gonna be burning gas (argon) cuz argon is wut makes the wire bond with the steel and if u have flux then flux takes its place so u dont have to run argon...i would just look around for a mig welder that runs gas instead of flux cuz flux comes out like ----...try goin to lowes i saw a nice lincoln there i think it was in the 500's? i could be wrong

You didn't help at all. I want a flux welder with the option of adding gas so I can do both.

Just drive up to my house on the weekend and you can make whatever you want.

The description of that welder looks like it's what you're looking for, but the price is so low that I'm not sure how much I would expect out of it. I was looking for a deal too, but the low price on most welders scared me about it's ability. I ended up spending close to $700 for the welder and gas setup. :-\

Thanks for the offer Steve. I just bought the welder, let's just hope it'll work for my pipes. Do these usually come with any wire? It doesn't say it does so I'm thinkin no. But then again I don't really know ---- about welding. Anything else I should buy besides gas? I'm just gonna go fluxcore now and get gas later.

does it come with the helmet and gloves?...prolly not mine didnt...but invest in an auto darkening helmet i bought mine on ebay it works great i think i payed 80 bucks for it...it just makes it easy to see where ur gonna start...good thing to have if ur new to welding...but wire runs about 10 bucks a spool...thats wire to be used in gas welding...not sure about flux-wire...good luck

Re: Buying a welder, couple quick questions

Mine came with the face shield holder upper thing, flux wire, and the gas conversion kit. When I bought the gas I got a tank, and the mig wire.

I bought a $10 helmet yesterday at this used tool store, but the lens wasn't dark enough, cause my eyes still hurt. I took the lens out of the face shield holder upper that came with the welder and replaced it into the new helmet. Now it's good. Damn my eyes hurt. :-[
