If the rings are still in their places and look good, take them out and save thier spots. (I know your looking to cut costs on the rebuild) Just a thought. They must have been sealing good, cause the car ran pretty normal, it just had that smoke at idle.

Unless of course you were told it was fucked and was sold as is, but if they said its definetely the rings or nothing at all, Id be seeking a refund or atleast a nice chunk

This motor was sold knowing there was a problem. I didn't know what it was because I never took it apart. The only thing I did was describe exactly what the symptoms were and hope for the best. Without opening the motor myself, I couldn't tell any potential buyer what the problem might be. I don't work like that.
From talking to Nathan I think the pistons melted. No chunks in the motor. He's pretty down about it and it sucks that I couldn't know exactly what was going on with it, but I documented as much as I could of it, and it was a risk. Both for me not knowing if it was a headgasket, and him for not knowing if it was 4 broken pistons.

this reminds me that i have to open up my engine and see if theres any damage.

There were metal shavings in the oil pan which i believe to be from the replaced eagle rod with the bigger rod bolts (HOPEFULLY)

man you guys are blind, you cant see the chunks taken out of the pistons, but i do agree we could use some good pics so we dont have to lean close to the screen
