Buy a used evo 8 or evo 9.I currently dont own a dsm(ive owned 11 of them) but still work on them. The only real difference besides a price tag between a evo 8 and 9 is prettly much the head.We in the dsm community call a evo 9 a evo with cams.Doing a swap has its headaches and the newer evo drivetrains are so far holding up well.

but aren't used evos pretty beat up? i see people all the time kicking the ass out of their new evos and not even breaking them in right.

in regards to power its gotta be the same engine in the IX base and the MR, same compression , same everything, just that the MR has the 6 speed tans, and other non powertrain things

also how diff can the head be from the VIII and the IX i read about it and the mivec in the IX only alters spark not valve timing, (I know what mive stands for, but this version of mivec does not involve valve timing) according to car & driver and autoweek. i don't know about the cams if they're any different.

my cousing bought a used evo and at first everying was fine, now it stalls after reving it hard or putting in in neutral after several shifts, and no. it does happen i tried it and it did stall, i have been driving manuals forever so error was not a factor. you have to rev the engine while the rev are coming down or the engine dies. and my cousing really babies the car so the car does not see much abuse from him.

well ................. we'll see because i really like the power upgrade from the IX and also the front, but i really don't like mistubishi's stance on aftermarket products. so if i were to buy one i would want it new, also not a lot of people get the sun, sound and leather package. and i want mines with a sunroof and HID's. i don't really care about the leather. and i don't like the way aftermarket hid's look they're too blue or too purple.

so anyway i still got time. evo X comes out in sept, which is when i plan to buy the IX if i give up on the 'mrage

Hello, blanket statement! Not every car owner treats it the same as the next.

true............ but it's hard to know which car was taken care of, oil leaks are not the only thing to look for

Well, the US kept the hood scoop on them like they were in Japan, but gave us the shitty 2.5 NA motor; Japanese RS's have an EJ20t in them, using the topmount with the hoodscoop.

i wonder if the old 2liter or the new 2.5 fits in the 90's subaru's. well yeah in japan and other places you always get the good ----. here in the us we get the watered down stuff that looks the part but can't back it up, most of the time at least. look at the STI in japan there is a legacy sti, sti wagon, in england you have the evo ranging from 289hp to 400hp stock from factory, i love hondas for high reving and i love mitsus for turbo engines and awd, but the thing subaru's got is that hot flat 4. man i love that burbly sound even in idle, even better at WOT :S
