Automotive major?

Well I guess I've had a mid college epiphany, and realized I really don't want to work with computers the rest of my life. I tried doing engineering for a major but all the math and design ---- make me want to kill myself. I am a hands on learner. I hate books and reading and that ----. I want to work on cars, trucks and equipment. Dropping out to be a regular mechanic is out of the question and would be stupid.

What I'm looking for is a decent school that would offer an associates (since most auto related degrees are associates) or even a bachelors in something like auto repair, diesel tech or w/e. I'm thinking i might end up at a community college, and I don't really want to go to one coming from where I am.

I'm in the north east so I'm looking in like NY, VT, NH, ME, MA, CT, and RI. I don't want to go to the city either.

So anyone have any suggestions?

My major is mechanical engineering technology, which is basically a 4 year class in machining. You learn cad/cam and mechanical properties of materials. Fun so far and the highest math you need is Cal 2. I attend University of Houston, but call around and see if any of the schools near you offer something similar.

ah ---- it i'm in...lol yeah right.

i think i went throught the same thing you are going through. i did 4 years in the navy as an IT (informations systems tech) and decided when i got out i would goto college for a degree in that so i would have experiance and a degree so it would look good and i would get hired before somebody with just a degree. well just about two years into it, after all 4 cisco class's (wich were a bitch) i had 5 credits to go. like 2 in some bullshit "hoe to be proffesional" type class and like 3 credits in Coop (whewre you work in the field for free). started to think that i'm really not so much into networking as i was the day i started and really couldn't see myself doing this the rest of my life. so i dropped out and went into real estate lol. bad move hahaha i hate working for commision. just do what what would make you feel happy and you wont regret ;D

Re: Automotive major?

naw im not sure which one it was but i was hella stoked when i first put in for it, but i was denied because it was E-6 orders and i was only an E-5 but up for E-6 within the next cycle wich was less then a year away. i have alot of family in the NW thats where i was moving anyways just thought it would be cool to get those orders. a little over a month before i checked out my CPT asked me why i was getting out (i was the one that helped him with most of his tech issues) so i told him i didn't get the orders i wanted so he pulled some strings and they came too late. i was already looking forward to cruising DD-214. kinda wish i would have just took them and the bonus since it would have been tax free sinc ewe were in the gulf at the time :(, but oh well.
