anyone know dsm's?
im looking in to buying a 1998 talon tsi awd on craigslist the guy wants $2900 witch sounds like a good deal being as it's 100% stock minus muffler and spark plug wires (and it's decked out with leather and power everything also has black 17's with 2 extra sets of rims 1 of witch has a set of winter tires on them)
but the only reason im posting this up is they guy says it needs a clutch, and when i asked about it he said it had a brand new clutch within 2500 miles that was correctly broken in but... here is his exact words "I Think its the throw out bearing, it was in 5th gear and i slowed down at an exit ramp, pulled it out of fifth at the light and when i went to put it in first it wouldnt go into gear. It was a new clutch, only 2500 miles on it, and i broke it in properly, there was obviously some sort of issue when it was installed" does it sound fishy to you? i already called vatozone about a throught berring and i would have to buy a clutch kit witch is $290 do you guys think it's the tranny? or is it possible i could get lucky and be somthing stupid like the master cyc needing to be bleed or clutch adjusted??? any helpful answers thanyou in advance |
Re: anyone know dsm's?

Re: anyone know dsm's?
If it wont go int any gear without grinding, then its probably the throw out bearing release fork broke. My brother-in-laws did it to him. We need more details. Will it go int gear and just not shift without grinding or dose it not go into gear at all? If you just need a new trans you coud get it from tigerjapanese

http://www.tigerjapanese.com/index.p...mart&Itemid=26 i hope it's just the release fork so i don't have to buy a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out berring and all tho i would still have to rip it appart to get to the fork but im shure it's cheaper than $300 |
Re: anyone know dsm's?
i just found an oem replacement clutch release fork
https://www.dsmparts.com/customer/pr...6&bestseller=Y under $60 and the first thing it says is that they are pretty common to break when you have a heavier than stock clutch i think i may have gotten lucky, but i can only hope |

Ahhh....DSMs. Turning ordinary people into mechanics since 1989.
You can usually assume that a $3000 DSM will need $3000 in fixes. good luck. tranny r&r is definately not for a beginner. Past all that, I love DSMs. my first love of cars. I will own another in the future, but I know how to work on them. |
Re: anyone know dsm's?
Well if the fork is broken you should be able to reach up and pull the fork right out of the side of the transmission.
