does it get cold for a bit and then hot? if it just never gets cold, i wouldnt think that the heater core is the problem, since it takes a bit for the coolant to get warmed up. normally the symptoms are cold air, then about 20mins later, the temp starts rising. although i never rule something out until i know for sure.

is your condenser plugged up? fins all bent to ----? what about the evaporator? rats nest arent uncommon, and cause your a/c to work like ----

It takes a while to get cool....and FOREVER to actually do any good. I would say it is pretty consistant. I'll have to get some actual temp readings. The fins all look decent. Nothing major. Not sure about the evap though.

The coldest it ever got was a butt hair under 50*. When I come to a stop it rises quite a bit, then goes back down slowly. It takes FOREVER to reach these temps. :S I just got one of those guages and it had 45psi in the low side of the system which it says it normal. My AC still sucks. :'(

I "accidentally" leaked some of the 134a out and was watching the air vent temp reading and it actually started to get cooler around ~40psi. Is that my sweet spot? :l

After 45psi it says "DANGER, SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP!". I was kinda amazed that this can of freon could know something like that so I decided I should stop filling the AC system. :l

iTS BEEN SINCE LAST SUMMER SINCE i HAVE DONE MY ac repairs at the shop but if memeory serves me corectly that jeep still has the expansion valve and they like to ---- up. Get a set of gauges on that bitch and see whats up, its like a compression test for your a/c.

it shouldnt stay running. it has a low and high preasure switch if you dont hit the high preasure switch to tun it off the you dont have enuff preasure in the system

Its old school. When you charge to clear the sight glass, it just means you have a full column of liquid at the metering device.

We always use the superheat and subcooling methods now, its a better way. A lot of people still use the "beer can cold" method on the suction line though.

what is the td of the evaporator?

What is the suction line temperature right before the compressor and the suction pressure?
high side pressure and the liquid line temperature? (liquid line=small line going from the condenser to the metering device next to the evaporator)

Hold the engine to 3000rpm and take the supply temperature from the vents. The cooling capacity goes up as the rpm does.

18-20 degree drop in air temp across the evap coil is the max. cooling your gonna get.

y7turbo......at least someone else here understands :)

Dr. Boost........

Have you check to make sure the drain line from the evap box is clear? Full of condesate it would effect air flow and cooling. Careful though, in cooler climates I've seen to trapped water turned to ice on old R12 setups.

So you're telling me when it's 120* outside my AC will only be blowing at 100*? :l It was 100* yesterday and I was getting temps of about 50*.

I'll check the drain, but I think I'm pretty much screwed for the summer. :3
