Alternator interchangeability?

Default Alternator interchangeability?

I'm just curious; my alternator out of my 90 si bolted to my d16z6 just took a ----.

Can i throw an obd1 alternator on there?

I think they bolt up but plugs are different, pull the back off and check the bruses, 9times out of 10 thats all thats wrong :P

well the bearing is shot and its not spitting out voltage... I have a friend with an obd1 alternator and i may have one burried in my shop but i'd rather get one than go looking in that heap

from looking on the net they seem to be interchangeable... i'd just like to know before i make a trip to get something

Yup! I'm doing it but the other way around. d16z6 replaced a d16a6 on my ZC LONG time ago.

FYI though. Check the amperage. I know z6 Alt. are 70amp, the a6 might be a 50amp or a 60amp. 60amp isn't so bad, but watch you headlight dim with the 50amp. I know this too. I put a 90 dx alt on my motor before the z6 and wow did lights dim at night.

im not pulling anywhere near 50a with all my ----; i ran around for a half hour last night with my little toy battery in the trunk with probably a 75% charge; still had enough juice to start the car when i got home; and i was using the headlights the entire time
