thanks...it was the dowel pins

Next question...im putting the timing belt on (i marked it and the cam gear)...but the marks dont line up anymore...how can i adjust the cam gear?

What do I do??? THe timing belt is a few notches off from my marks...

you need to relign it up properly before you tighten the tensioner. Take the belt off again and make sure its all lined up, keep an eye on it and have a friend help you.

ouch...is that the only way to fix it?

when i took it off, i just slipped it off the cam gear

remove/adjust/install the belt with the tensioner loose, then spin the motor over a few times counterclockwise. Then tighten the tensioner.
