alternative way to install head gasket?

Is there any way to take off the head without taking off the intake manifold?

i am installing a new oem headgasket and srp head studs, but am having a hard time getting the head off

i have disconnected most everything...and wanted to know if there was anyway to do it without removing the im, or at least an easier way of getting the im off

I never take off the intake manifold. I know the head is a little bit heavy but get a couple of your buddies and you'll be able to lift it off the block :-\

You just unplug the electrical connections, easy.

well i need to look at the one in the back of the im tomorrow with more light...but the one on the passanger side is held on by a brass nut, but thenut is kind of recessed into the head, making it very very hard to get to it with a wrench

you need to relign it up properly before you tighten the tensioner. Take the belt off again and make sure its all lined up, keep an eye on it and have a friend help you.

ouch...is that the only way to fix it?

when i took it off, i just slipped it off the cam gear

ghettoturbo 08-24-2005 06:14 PM

Re: alternative way to install head gasket?

remove/adjust/install the belt with the tensioner loose, then spin the motor over a few times counterclockwise. Then tighten the tensioner.

I don't know how it is on a honda, but there should be a mark for TDC on your cam gears somehwere. When this mark points directly up, the head should be at TDC. Then you just rotate your bottom end around to tdc, install the belt and there you go.
