Re:Is it worth it?

thanks man. Can you recommend a turbo for the sohc vtec? I have been doing a ton of research on b18b and then i decided to change my mind. Also how much psi can you run safely on one of the SOHC motors? Thanks for all the help

i have a d16y8 (98 ex) sohc vtec. I am peicing my custom turbo project now, and I have a gen2 t-25 eclipse turbo. This turbo is incredibly fast spooling but doesn't pull that hard at the top. the first gen eclipse turbo(14b or g i think) spools slightly slower but pulls pretty hard at the top. I would recomend either of these turbos for a sohc which ever is easiest to get a hold of. I bought mine for 75 bucks. a sohc motor if built right could probably run upt to 20 psi maybe even more. It depends on your compression ratio, rod strngth and tuning(engine management)
you could probably run more than 20 psi is just costs more cheddar

Wow that sounds like a lot. But how much could a stock sohc push in psi wise?

umm if you totally build the engine .. ie pistons, rings, rods, sleeves, balanced, honed, bored, decked, tanked etc it will prob last longer but will cost you quite a bit. $2200++ (and thats with hook ups at machine shops) i'm just gonna go stock zc with n20 (200 wheel hp) and turbo later so what if it blows up .. i can get an si motor cheap until i build a stronger zc to put in.

What do you mean a SOHC vtec isn't real vtec? It has the high rpm cam profile same as the B series (Well, the D16Z6 does) and neither has variable cam phasing. In theory, the Vtec systems on them are identical, with the exception of variable valve timing and lift are only on the intake side of the SOHC, while DOHC have variable intake and exhaust.

Re:Is it worth it?

So It is true vtec. I have a question is vtec just as loud in the sohc as it is in the dohc when it kicks in? My friend has a gsr and i just love when the vtec kicks in it is really loud and you can feel it throw you in your seat.

DANG!! Y'all people talk too much. lol :P

You can keep it reliable... A B series engine is going to be more reliable than a D series, and a D series turbo can hold up for a LONG time with 7-8psi on good fuel management. Just take care of the car. Take CARe of the CAR... The CAR needs some CARe. I have a purple mongoose in my pants.
