Wondering if I should rebuild my turbo
I was driving my piece around under boost and I get some random smoke in my car. I'm wondering what it is. There really isn't a smell and there isn't too much smoke either. I pull over and take a look and nothing is leaking. The only thing I notice is my dip stick is very loose. And there is oil splatter on the bottom side of my hood and on my manifold. So I thought maybe my dip stick got was loose and some oil squirt on my manifold and made the smoke. I replaced my dipstick and heat wrapped it so it wouldn't happen again. I go and drive around and it still smokes. Only when I'm on it for a while. I take off my intake and look in the turbo and there is a coating of oil all over the place. So I'm thinking the seal crapped out or something. Now I'm looking into getting it rebuilt. But before I do I just wanted to know if anyone has another possibility for what is causing the smoke? I can't think of any, and thats why I'm going to be sending out the turbo to get rebuilt and ported but I was just wondering.
I also had a leak down test and compression test done and they were both fine so I know the motors good. Then I started seeing random posts about people and their oil return lines causing oil to get in the turbo. Which is why I'm making this thread. Because a little oil is leaking from the tap in the pan. But I don't think it would cause anything.
And the motor is a b18c1 with a 18g turbo.

Hey if your turbo had enough shaft play, it certainly has worn out the seals and that's explaining your oil leak.
a profesional remanufacturing of your turbo with new bearings that remove shaft play, accurate rebalancing to prevent further wear and new seals to stop the leak is the only way out of this problem.
Both the bearings AND the seals might have to be oversized to compensate for the wear and put the turbo back into specs.

And with the whole Blaast thing. I remember hearing about something like the thread you linked back when I first made my account on here and was doing a junkyard d. But I have a place I'm going to be sending it out to. Local and will only cost $250 and I have used them before so I know they know what they are doing. I'm not saying Blast is bad or anything. I'm just going to go with what I know and have used.
