I'm pretty sure the 96+ have a different oil pan bolt pattern.
The 88-95's have the smae bolt pattern, but the 92-95 is a deeper pan. The oil pick ups on the 88-91 and 92-95s are also different.
TO use a Z6 oil pan on a A6 you'd need the Z6 oil pick-up too and vise versa.

The 96+ is not interchangable I'm told ( my friend got a 92-95 greddy kit that came with a new oil pan, but he couldn't use it b/c his car was a 96' D16Y7, then he sold the enitre kit to my other friend that runs a D16a6. My friend used the new oil pan on his crx, but I think he is retarded and didn't use the 92-95 oil pick-up, no less his motor has only blew up once b/c he ran 15psi with a FMU and stock injectors
