doesnt look good but I would still try it. Like was mentioned before you can always get a new wheel.

That turbo will probably not last long as it's clearly out of balance. If you push it to the limits of it's rev range it will definitely not last long.

I got a T3 "40 trim" from an 87 Saab 900 with .48 exhaust housing at the junkyard for $50. Minimal shaft play, both wheels intact and I got the boost control solenoid with it.

The biggest thing I would be worried about isn't the turbo failing (it's not that expensive to fix)...just think what would happen if the motor sucks any parts into it!

ouch.. Yes it will affect performance, and the longevity of the turbo, its pretty much junk unless you can get a new compressor wheel and balance it for cheap? try to get a smoking deal on it if possible. I mean you could just slap it on there, but how long it would last is very questionable.

Good luck,
Jeff

Listen to Jeff, that turbo would be good for a bad turbo example, things to look for when buying a turbo and such...

Considering I got sold 4 bad 14B's in the span of 3 months, I'd call that turbo scrap just about! A rebuild is one thing, needing to replace internals (unless you get a smoking deal on them of have spares laying sround) on a fairly common turbo like this.... just doesnt make financial sense.

For the same or less money you can ALWAYS (trust me it took a couple times) you can find a turbo in good working order.

Zeusfire69 brings a good point... If that wheel has any unseen hairline cracks & more pieces break off.... Think of the consequences. Simply not worth the risk in relation to the savings.
