noob question, what is this for?

 

Normally there is a fitting there where you connect a hose that goes from the compressor housing to the wastegate.That is what actuates the wastegate.

I pluged the one on my turbo and ran the wastegate off the IM......n00b!

well it helps now that you posted a picture of the whole thing .

Is it threaded?It looks like it was modified.Ive never seen a turbo with a hole there .If it is threaded,thats a good place to tap off for your boost guage.

thats exactly what i was thinking, i was wondering if thats what its for. -a boost gauge.

 

That's the exact same type of turbo that I have. If that is what it is for, that's cool.

 

it it hollow? If not, maybe its for a heat shield
