The Edelbrock kits instructions doesn't say to remove the oil pan. Sport Compact Car just drilled the side of the pan right on the car. The motor blew on the first pass but hey, what do you expect from a $3000 kit.

the oil pan bolt are torque to about 12 pounds, if you did not take that pan off it could get nasty, when I took my engine apart to rebuild it, I found a valve adjustment nut between the windage tray and oil pickup, and big ------- hole in the pickup sreen, luckily it did not make it through the pump. so imagine what hundreds of metal flakes can do. it can get nasty!

I think it's the vortech kit, that you get a punch, and tap to put the drain back hose into your pan.
1. Punch hole in oil pan
2. load flutes on tap full of grease
3. tap hole.
4. thread fitting in
5. Do an oil change to get all the little crap out.
No thank you. Even if I had to pull the motor, the pan would still come off for this part!!
