I am hearing a LOUD "pop" sound. However, ir's not coming from the motor, but rather from the DP, right inder neath the shifter it seems...it only happens after I hit low boost, and let of the throttle. could this sound be just an obnoxious backfire due to running a little rich? or is it detonation?

my car does that same pop when i downshift sometimes.

also detonation is when the fuel explodes instead of burning in the cylinder.

 

where would the fuel explode during the detonating??

 

Pssst... hey buddy, In the cylinder... but shortyz meant that instead of a controled burn, it burns/explodes at the wrong time, usually before the piston reaches TDC. That causes alot of stress on the piston and rods, causing a blown motor...

retard timing, have good quelch areas, lowering compression, using higher octane gas.

 

Yeah, definately retarding timing, good fuel management, and plenty of tuning will all help prevent detonation.

 

oh yeah... how can you tell if you're detonating? I don't think i've ever had it happen before so i'm not sure.
