Wastegate, when is to big enough???
Hey, i'm looking for answers, i have read that some guys are running high HP numbers using 35mm wastegates and i simply wanted to know if there are any kind of limits that tell you that over a certain amount of HP you need "this " size of a wastegate! Also what's the difference between 35mm and 38mm other than the obvious?! :1
I have a chance of getting a 35mm for cheap hence the reason why i'm asking.

Has to deal with big exhaust housings and the amount of exhaust it'll flow on a properly sized and matched turbo. Obviously the larger the housing, the more exhaust gas being pushed through it when matched correctly to the engine and the more hp that particular setup will make. If the wastegate is too small to properly vent pressure on said setup, it'll spike above the set psi number because it can't release enough pressure. I run 38mm's for my peace of mind unless the setup is making decent numbers...above the 350hp mark. Then I'd suggest going larger. It all depends on your setup and your goals.
And if it's a chinese knock-off, go with the 38mm. I've heard about some issues with their 35mm version.
