Default Wastegate Question.

Can I just leave the wastegate actuator off the turbo so I won't boost cuz right now I can't afford the dyno? Is it safe to drive it around and not hurt the car or the turbo.

nope... thats called infini-boost... running w/ the gate closed (which is what happens when you don't have it hooked up) it'll run as much boost as the turbo can produece...

I don't think you understood what I think he means. If you take the actuator off then the rod won't be holding the wastegate valve closed. So the valve will just flop around and be pushed open. I think its possible to still make some boost if you are really beating on it depending on how small your wastegate port is.

You could just take off your upper intercooler or charge pipe so no boost can get to the engine.

you can run with the wastegate actuator off, but you might still boost. In my car in 3rd gear i can get 3-4psi with the actuator off, just boost creeping. Pulling a charge pipe is a great way to overspin the turbo causing it to kaboom

just run it with the actuator on and don't go into boost=meaning you can't go past 1/3 throttle and takeing off on stop lights like non racing normal people do
if you have a boost gauge it'll be safer to see when you get outta vaccuume and go into boost. you'll kill your turbo if you run without a charge pipe for too long.

I guess I wasn't clear because I didn't post in the same reply. I meant to prevent the motor from getting the boost that you might make even with the actuator off you can just remove the charge pipe. With the charge pipe removed and the wastegate actuator removed the turbo should not overspin and of course the engine will not get any boost. Correct me if i'm wrong. You could also do what trebor said. It sucks though. You are gonna wanna get on it more than that. I drove like that for a week. I wanted to boost sooooo bad. Just make sure you have a boost gauge and don't boost. You should be able to drive more agressively though with the actuator off. Just watch the gauge.

WTF!? Why would you ever want to run an engine without boost? Give me a valid reason!

Even mentioning that makes you look as silly as those people:
