Volvo is shitting oil. New turbo or just a rebuild?
I picked up a volvo 850 turbo for cheap and I thought all it needed was a fuel pump. After getting it running I saw it was leaking a bunch of oil from the turbo.
So...... this one needs some big work to get it running. How much does it normally cost for someone to rebuild a turbo?
Or, is it simple enough to do on my own and I'll just need to get it balanced?
Also, has anyone pulled a turbo on a 94ish volvo 850? I have the feeling it's going to be a bitch.

Check ebay. (no ching chongs, find a legit. They're everywhere)
Is your turbo standard t3 4bolt flange? You can find a rebuilt and balanced turbo cheap on www.spooledmotorsports.com. You can get them even cheaper used. I'm talking for $200-150. You can even find a stock replacement for your volvo for around that price. It wont be new, it might not even be rebuilt but it will work.
Hope this helps and hopefully someone else chimes in to give you some more help and can save you a bit more $$$.
$500 is rediculous.

I have one off of a 740 I believe, it has a different flange than other T3s though. It is a t3 .42/.48, some of the volvos run a mistu turbo though. Of course the one I have is used and may or may not do the same thing....If I had a volvo, I would see it as an excuse to get a bigger/more efficient turbo and raise the boost.

I've got a 96 850R and also had a 94 850 turbo. Get get a good condition 15G as that's what comes stock on them. Don't even bother with a eBay turbo as I mean a chinese turbo cause you'll have to get an adapter plate or pull off your manifold and grind it flat. Being that there's a lip on the manifold that comes out like an 1/8" off the flange. It's actually not that hard to remove the turbo. It's just undoing the coolant and oil lines without breaking or stripping anything. Just hose it down with PB or any kind of penatrating oil on the bolts and the coolant and oil line fittings. My stock snail is leaking abit but nothing I'm worried about. I don't beat on my car that much and my car being an R runs a few psi's above a normal 850. The 15G's are actually pretty cheap as you can find them from like 70-150 in decent conditon be it on ebay or volvo forums like Volvospeed(honda-tech for volvos) or swedespeed. You can upgrade to like a 16T on V70's I believe as is you plan on doing things to your Volvo then the stock turbo is the biggest bottle neck. Hell it's a 2.3L five liter engine and you see the size of that turbo? You can get a rebuild kit from ww.gpopshop.com for fairly cheap at $81 for the basic kit or 120 for the complete kit. Hope this helps out getting your brick boosted and back on the road. Good luck.
