well, the 2.8 v6 is a pos motor for performance. since it's a '87, it a TBI motor (i got an '86 2.8 tbi). you can build his truck several ways:

for about 1,200 bucks, u can get a brand new 3.4L crate motor, but lose the tbi.

look in jegs and order a v8 swap kit.

or swap it out for a 4.3 out of a junk yard.
