You're the man, thanks a lot bro. This makes life ten times easier. Hopefully I'll be joining the boosted beamer ranks soon.

Re: Turbocharged '92 BMW 525i
So turns out they sent me the wrong clutch on Saturday. So, I had the whole thing apart - exhaust, driveshaft, heatshields, shifter linkage, trans all out in < 2 hrs - not bad. But, no proper clutch to button it back up so I had to wait!
http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/New%...newclutch1.jpg DIY resurfaced flywheel - steel wire brush on a drill + sand paper + acetone http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/New%...newclutch2.jpg damnit, wrong clutch disc! Called them but they were closed - talked to them monday they 3-day'd it out got it thurs but put it in Friday. http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/New%...newclutch3.jpg Ah much better! http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/New%...newclutch5.jpg 240mm for an M3 on the right, 228mm for the 525i on the left - no real difference in contact area - glad I didn't shovel big $ for M3 flywheel and slave cylinder! http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/E34%...Install/J1.jpg Awaiting surgery! http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/E34%...Install/J2.jpg All torqued up! http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/E34%...Install/J4.jpg Trans not terribly heavy - I make funny faces in pics, get used to it. This is a ZF 310Z, which is the same as a 1995 M3 so it should handle power just fine. http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/E34%...nstall/J10.jpg All done! http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/E34%...ll/success.jpg This one is for Borat. In all, a lot more "tricky" to drive around in traffic. The pressure plate is rated 100 or 150% over stock. The clutch is very very aggressive grabbing - get some jitter as you engage 1st without revving it up. Rev matching downshifts is less forgiving - if you aren't very close to the right RPM when rev matching it will let you know but jolting as the clutch grabs. Pretty heavy clutch feel but bearable. Bitch really moves now and I am not afraid to get on it - I want to give it 300 - 500 miles of just driving (somewhat hard) before I do any hardcore gear changes, but I am pretty sure a 1/2 shift will light the tires up at this point. |
