Pretty involved - I had to build the custom coil ignitor circuits (3 for the GM coils but I have 6 ready now as I am going back to stock coil on plugs over winter break) which wasn't that hard, but the wiring was intense and confusing at times. Because I am running MSnS-E (extra feature firmware) I have benefit of options such as boost control, launch control, tractino control, shift lights, knock sense, etc. but some of those features require circuits to be built but the area to build custom circuits on the MS board is quite small. So, I have built what is called the MSnS-E Expansion Board as seen here:

http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/E34%...nsionboard.jpg

It offers tons of stuff including:

2 VR Sensor Circuits
EGT Logging
Second O2 Sensor (for V motors or whatever you want)
Table switching
Real Time Barometric Correction
4 General Purpose Outputs
Shift Lights
Boost Control
Launch Control
Nitrous Control
Water Injection control

in addition to the modifications that don't require hardware changes such as:

12x12 fuel table
12x12 spark table
Injector Staging
Rev Limiting
Over Boost Protection
Target AFR
Coolant Temp Advance
Intake Temp Retard
Anti-Rev/Traction Control
Over-Run Fuel Cut
and the list goes on...

Not tooooo much. I finished it under $3,000. But, I've since added here and there.

Very nice setup. I like BMW's but my luck with Euro cars haven't been the best. It was my very first car though and never broke down on me or left me stranded when I owned it. Then I went for the space age to the stone age and traded it for a geo tracker. lol.
