Re:turbo without charge pipes?

i have a shitty turbo, so ive done it before.
i disconnected the pipe from the outlet of the intercooler.
man was that a cool sound, CRAZY loud. but as they said it will wreck your turbo because its spooling until it gets a preset pressure, but it will never build any pressure.
it can wreck bearings, etc.
but if your just going somewhere, as long as you don't put a load on the engine (ie, more than 0 vacuum) you will be fine.

0 vacuum is wot, the only way to be past 0 vacuum is if you're boosted ;)

Isn't there one thing everyone is missing.... You will ---- the turbo if you run it for even a shot period of time with no oil going to it. Just think about a bearing spinning at 100-150,000RPM with no oil :-X

I hope he isn't thinking he can run it with no oil. :-X I'll just assume he knows better. :-\

of course oil would be going to the turbo, how can i check for bad oil seals without oil running to it :P

i think he plans on having his oil lines hooked up ;)

i drove my car without charged pipes during an install to a girls house about 40 miles away... and also to the exhaust shop about 10 times... just dont rev the car... i kept it under 4k rpms

Re:turbo without charge pipes?

what if you found a cap to fit the compressor outlet and drilled a 1/2" hole in it or something? then the turbo could build enough boost to open the waste gate without completely capping the air flow. i guess the size of the hole would be critical... anyone know how many CFM a 1/2" hole flows at 8 psi? :)

Re:turbo without charge pipes?

I think it should be fine as long as when he drives with it on, he doesnt rev too high,
like makes sure to stay under 4-5krpm,

most turbos we use dont make full boost till around 3k anyways, by 5krpm it certainly shouldnt be overboosting enough to destroy itself,

I mean yeah if he revs all the way up to fuel cut,
it might not be good.
