I a issue of motortrend I read at the libery it had a "top speed face off". The article was in 1989 or something pretty old. They had...
GTA trans-am ( auto 350ci ) = 154mph-ish
old 300zx turbo = 160mph elet. limited
5.0 mustang = 148mph
AND THE BIGGEST SUPPRISE WAS THE "OLDS. SUPREME" with a "quad four" that did right at 150mph-ish !!!
I also know that in 1991 the MR2 Turbo was motortrends car of the year, despite being $30K in 1991...
Imagine your in a new 5.0 GT in 1989 and you take your car to top speed and a damn 4cylinder OLDs passes you...

do a search on "olds aerotech" too. this was supposed to be a land-speed record car that GM was building in the late 80's and i believe it used a turbo quad4 engine. AJ foyt was supposed to be the driver. there may be some useful info there.
