Turbo Distance from block
Hi All,
My first post will be mining you for knowledge....
Basically I selected my turbo charger to suit my application in terms of power and spoolability, unfortunately physical fitment is going to prove to be a problem in the standard location hanging off the manifold due to the position of certain chassis rails in my vehicle. There is however a space the turbo could fit in approximately 2.5 feet from the engine. I'm aware as the exhaust gas cools it contracts so will affect spool, the question is how dramatic will this be with a well wrapped manifold? I have a VGT turbo so can make the exhaust housing smaller to counteract the effect. Realistically am I going to have a major issue?
Regarding the manifold I presume I would be better off running individual pipes from each cylinder to the turbo and collecting there rather than a standard manifold with single pipe to turbo (which would be much easier)
For info I am running a Saab 2.0 engine and Holset he341VGT turbo, and looking to run ~450HP

That shouldn't be long enough to be a major issue. I'm working on a project with a similarly long up-pipe myself - I'm using a manifold and one pipe for ease of fabrication, but a header type design would be better for performance. Just be sure the turbo is adequately supported.
