Default Re: #2 Rod Bearing Destroyed....

Old friend of mine has a Y7 that he just rebuilt and is going to sell to me. Off to pick it up within the hour.

Any tips on pulling the motor? Motor/Tranny together or seperate? Ways to keep track of all the wires/hoses/lines?

I can use the Y8/Y7 headgasket, right? Shouldn't matter...

I keep a sharpie marker, masking tape, and a digicam handy with me if I feel like I'll have any problem putting things back together the way they were. Take a few pics before you touch anything, then throw a piece of tape on sensor and wire with a matching lable/number anything. Then you're guarenteed not to have a problem putting ---- together, even if you need to abandon the project for a month.

I hear it's easier to drop the engines out the bottom. I did that way before on a chevy (made it easy as ----), but to be honest I've never had an engine out of a honda.

your oil problem is the y8 pump i know first hand my ek sedan had a factory y7 to brgin with it had a little over 100k and it startes using oil for some reason the eventually the pump bearings failed and boom the motor was gone. then i swapped out to a full y8 swap with 56k on the clock never had a problem then the motor has a little more than 100k on it now and is mysteriously using oil the same way the y7 did so im waiting for this bottom to go. i went with the y8 because i thought they would have a beefier oiling system but i was wrong the y7 and y8 is the same pump. so good luck

Thanks bud! Yea, I have acutally 109,XXX miles on the odometer so go figure. Wierd, but this motor I picked up has new oil pump on it along with z6 rods/pistons and I guess some other new gaskets and gear to boot. I won't be boosting again and my bottom is toast so I was just happy he had something for me. Thanks for the good luck, should have the motor in tomorrow and I have to look on how to rewire the old injector clips in so I can put the old ECU in and what not. If I have any issues, I'll be sure to holler back at you all. You all have helped me so very much, and thank you each and everyone one of you for all your help, support, concern, and knowledgabilities.

I call BS.

ELspool has been spinning his Y8 to 8400RPM on the street for 4 years now, no problems, stock pump.

I'll counter your BS. I wouldn't happen to have any scientific paperwork showing the worthlessness of the Y series oil pumps, but I would be able to show 3 that I've had knock, and about 3 more free Y motors that came out of friends' cars. I just don't trust them bitches. I'd put the z6 oil pump in if I ever had another.
