Thank God Thank God Thank God Thank God....Motor In and runs GREAT!!! Praise God

So got the car tuned yesterday with the latest mods and what not. And last night I took it out to mess around. Well I do a 1st-4th run, let off start downshifting and getting off the exit ramp. As I'm going up it and nearing the stop I glance at my cluster and see the oil psi light start to flicker, come on, go off, flicker a little pop on again, and at this point I shut it off. Look to see what's up annnnnnnnd I see absolutlely nothing wrong from glancing around the bay.

I was a 1/2 quart oil over fill line, and when it cooled and I checked it I was 1/2 quart LOW on the stick. I DO have a small leak going into the pan, but by looking at the stick it isn't crazy drastic. I'll fix that today. My issue is the oil psi light coming on.....why? I know with low oil volume it can click on, but I have plenty of oil so I can't see the leaky drain flange playing a part in this.

1/16" 4 -an restricted oil feed, 3/4" oil dump, 10w30, T3/T04E 57, 10lbs, Stock D16....Y8 < I've heard the rumors and this is my FIRST expierence with it, but is this a sign of the known Y8 pump failure?

Cliff Notes: Oil psi light flickered on/off, nothing wrong, small drain leak but still lots of oil in the car. Could it be Y8 oil pump failure?

Thank you, fellas!

Re: Uhhhh......Oil PSI Light?

I’m not to good with this stuff. I would check your oil pressure first. If it drops of at higher rpms you may have something in your oil pan that only gets sucked up at higher rpms ( Your oil pump spins faster ) ,you pump just took a ----, clogged oil filter (probably not molest of them have a safety valve in them) , clogged oil passage. If this is fine look at the wire to the oil pressure sensor and possibly replace the sensor.

im guessing you dont have an oil pressure gauge...and im guessing your ---- is about to be toast

No I do not......annnnnnd how do ya figure? First time this ever happened and it came on as I slowed down not on a pull.

well if youre planning on changing the pump, pull some rod caps while youre down there to check, but low oil pressure fucks bearings

Not planning on changing if I don't have too. And Y8's are known for this but really only on built motors so getting another one it will probably suck again.

I agree, while I'm down there might as well throw in new rod bearings. I just JB welded the fitting in the pan to insure no leaks there and going to get a new hose because the heat made this one kink up pretty bad by the turbo flange and probably restricting a little.

I've NEVER had this issue before hence the stumpness of the situtation.

I drove the car home and the light flickered once then nothing the 1.5 mile home drive. Drove it to my grandparents to fix the drain and it never came on. Why the sparatic light? When it DID come on it wasn't during a full boost run, just decelerating, which is odd to me.

I say wire connection loose

Re: Uhhhh......Oil PSI Light?

full boost or not i dont see the difference really, the oil pump only knows rpm. You never know, maybe its a bad sensor. Id get an oil pressure gauge hooked up and then youll know for sure. As far as the wire being loose, ive run without the sensor on and you dont get a cel. Unless you mean that it should be on all the time and the reason its coming on sporatically is because the wire is loose, which might be the case.

Re: Uhhhh......Oil PSI Light?

Loose wire, as simple and (God willing) hopefully the issue here, sounds the most plausible. Drove it a little today and no light, no nothing. Did a couple burnouts because Dad says the exhaust looks like it has blue in it (and I did lose a quart, but it was from a leaky drain tap in the pan). No smoke, no CEL, no low oil PSI light, just confusion. I go back to school middle of this week and I commute so this is very inconvient.

Lose wire like off of the sending unit or what? The light flickered like it would if you drug a positive wire from a bulb over a battery. Where to check, and is it really that common?

Any other suggestions? Thanks a ton to you few that have already chimed in. Just looking for all aspects. Also, Dad is suggesting go N/A for school which I think is a waste on account of I can't see how this is a "turbo" related issue in anyway.

Re: Uhhhh......Oil PSI Light? UPDATE: I'm Officially Screwed!! ROD KNOCK

Took it out to see if I could get the light to come back on and see what was up. Before I knew it I was making a pull then shutting off the car after I upshifted.

Rod knock like a fiend. I was praying for a rod bearing, but it is looooouuuudddd so I think #1 cylinder rod is completly trashed. I'm letting it cool before I take the pan off and inspect.

Basically, I have to go back to school Thrusday and I need help from all of you BIG time to get my car running again. Suggestions on what to do, advice, diagnosis, tips on pulling the motor ( :-X), WHY IT HAPPENED!!! ANYTHING!!!
