You could make a t-fitting from the sending unit, which would be guaranteed filtered oil. Or you could use that sandwich plate you have, but you don't need that other fitting coming off unless you feel like having an analog oil pressure gauge. Sandwich plate is the easiest, and a few have a design that forces oil through the filter (all of them I had thought ) but if yours doesn't don't use it.
But yea oil drain is gravity so you don't want to put it back into the stream, i.e. above the turbo (gravity pulls toward the center of our planet), pressure in that line is bad.
