subaru IHI exhaust flange/downpipe
i pulled out my IHI and have been looking at it... it seems that you can't use a flat peice of metal for the down pipe... this true? it just seems that the WG flapper wouldn't have much room to open w/ flat stock...
those that've used this turbo... how did you get around that issue? i've got a few ideas but am looking for more
thanks

Then we traced where the 3'' piping would be mounted and then cut the flange. Anyway, check it out. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/maximu...bum?.dir=/49a9

Re:subaru IHI exhaust flange/downpipe
Well good news for you guys and bad news for me...
Good news first.. The wastegate diafram only lets the swing arm "swing" so far, and it can't possibly swing far enough to hit the exhuast flange ( tried, but its just not going to happen ) so all of you guys worries are over as far as that subject goes...
Bad news ( me only ). I found that 1 of my only 3 couplers was leaking maissivly ( which is why I was only running 6psi ). So I built a leak tester real fast... I found about 2 descent leaks, and 2 pin hole leaks, but I guess its good I found them.

Re:subaru IHI exhaust flange/downpipe
haha thats about what i was thinking... 4" exhaust... other thing i was thinking... also was thinking to put a bit of metal on the backside of the flange so the exhaust and WG where fairly divided keeping turbulance to a minimum... i've seen a few sr20 DP's for t25's like that.
but i think the 3" thing looks easier... did you just use a long stright pipe and cut to suite?...
thanks
