Default shooting for big HP

id like to you get everybdys input on this as my phone call to turbonetics was sort of pointless.

Im looking to make 600hp ( if you tell me a 60-1 ill slap you) I know i dont need a turbo this big to do it either.

So heres kind of what im looking for

650-750cfm
3.75 pressure ratio

preferably a somewhat large A/R housing i was thinking a nice .80 t3 turbine side. with something like a .50 trim to4e side should do the trick considering everything else im doing to the motor. i Also dont want to bottle neck it with a rediculously small Turbine side. I was just curious who here has played with lots of boost on a small 4cyl

Hed intake flow is 215cfm at 600lift. ( about 240ish at 700)
cam specs are still undecided This will be a 2.2L engine( built on the a20a )

Exhuast will be closer to 190cfm at 600lift and it doenst apprecialbly go up with more lift ( 210cfm at 700)

So id like to here input on this. my thing is that it would be nice ot be able to have a big enough turbo to have lag of the line. and then spool up completely by the end of the 60ft so it doenst blow the damn tires way on luanch.

anyways looking forward to hereing what you have to say sincerly sean

Not to say its not going to happen ( I know your crafty ) but with simular head flow and bigger turbo a buick GN 3.8L V6 can't even make that kinda power with out insane measures being taken ( like water boxes in the pass. side floor and T-72-T-76 turbos running at 30+Psi ).

But prove me wrong please.

grand nationals cant rev to 8500rpm. gn's run rediculously oversized turbos, they also run silly low compression, the only hold back i really see is the valve trian as the cam grinder i was dealing with pussed out at 500lift so im either gonna have to go back to the drawing board with the head and redevelope the port or just live with 500 lift choking my motor.aarrgghh i was shooting for 300hp n/a. belive it or not i just need to make 150% ve to make 600hp. not really that hard. the cam grind is crazy as hell though ill say that much. not what you normally think about in terms of duration at all.

3.8L vs 2.2L, they don't need to rev to 8500 ( but they can rev to 7000 ).

I had a feeling the reply was going to sound something like that, that's why no one else replied.. Just made an observation. And the huge turbo they run are to make-up for the shitty heads, GN's stock heads flow 240 from the factory with a really low lift/dur. cam.
Wait why'd I even break out the measuring stick...?

all of the well tuned GN's ive seen using t76 turbos are making well in excess of 700HP. most are running well into the 7's at that point. Fact are facts It doenst take a humungus turbo to make alot of HP.Also i dont think the GN heads breathe nearly as good as you give them credit for. ive got the flow sheets from a set we just had at the Flow bench. 195Cfm at 450 lift. good flow but not nearly as high as youd mentioned.

I have to go back and redo the pressure ratio and CFM #'s from teh turbos ive got in mind. none are nearly as large as what most people are running. But if i play with cam selection and use a big turbine housing to offset the HP curve it hould be no trouble to make 600hp. That and playing with the cam duration makes it a bit simpler. For example if i advance the cam 8 degrees the engine will pick up 200ft of TQ at 4000rpm, I doubt you guys have acess to the modeling softwsare i have recently been allowed to play with. it makes cam selection turbo slection a breeze. it also shows you things you might not have noticed before about the way your engine behaves.Im not however syaing the info is gospel but generally its within %5. which is good enough to really get it figured out.

Ok, your right. The stock GN heads only flow 140cfm ( I was 100cfm off, opps ). My friends ported stock GN heads flow 230cfm and the "champon race heads" flow around 340cfm.

Your totally right about the 600hp. Are you going to run one of those old Accord motors that has an Iron block ?

I totally agree with you on the bigger turbine theory too.

Score you 1 ; me 0

yes old iron a20a block.there an upside and a downside to this. the aluminum blocks are weaker then the crankshaft. SO the crank keeps the block stright. well with the a20a the block is stronger then the crank well if the block deforms the crank might break EEEKKK. Secondly YES im really playing with bigger turbine and cam timming. IM lining up all my ducks before i got buy parts. i like what ive been seeing so far. YES the GN heads stock arent that great. the flow bench that does are flow data has been known for being a bit generous time to time. the flow comes up however if you use a radious inlet for the face of the port. Thats why ive built my own flow bench. its not so generous and using a MAF as the airflow measuring device means it always calibrated. i just have to make sure that i adjust the pressure drop for each lift reading i take.

As for the turbin im leaning heavily towards a GT30 with a .80 A/R housing. might go with a gt25 with a .100 a/r turbine. i really liked the packaging of the newer GT series turbo there super high efficency and for the cost to performance ratio hands down the ROCK !!

id like a chance to really hash out this turbin phenominon ive been seeing. im gonna try to get the guy who created the software to add dynamic pressure ratio modeling to the software so it behave like the engine reall does. turbs dont hit full bost right off idle you know!!

dude...

holset hx40, or make an hx30/40 hydrid
we're talking....700 odd capability.

if not, a pt74 would be nice.

we did just make 510whp UNTUNED with just an SC61 on pump gas with meth injection last weekend on a friends car. and made 470 UNTUNED on striaght 93 pump
haha, this is in a b16 too. 2.0l b16, but still a b16.

im looking at a 2.2L a20a. ha.can you say stroker. rod ratio is horid though but who cares. im not revving over 8500rpm. but if i make the engine bigger i need to support it with head flow and my ----- *** cam grinder is being an ***.

as for the holsets they are sweet turbos no doubt but i can get a NEW Gt 30 configured anyway i want for like $1100 US. not bad not bad. !!

Im gonna go totaly against the grian. im gonna run a big *** turbine and a small compressor

why are you gonna run a huge turbine and a small compressor? your gonna get massive lag and shitty flow.

go with a sc61 or sc63..

so your stock motor makes 105 hp and your shooting for 600?

better sleeve and oring that ******, cause its gonna need 25psi + to make those numbers

plus its carbuerated, how u gonna get past that since a MPFI swap from a d16 doesnt fit (does it?)

how do you plan on getting past these barriers, and also what will u run for engine management?
