takes an hour or less to pull a head and put it back on with a new HG

if he loosens that end cap. his motor will never be the same. MARK MY WORD!

it sound like for sure your head gasket is bad, since u smell water burning. there is a way to check if your ringland is bad, but is too late for u to check since u remove the head aready. u can do a leak down test to see if the ring lands are bad. i did a leak down test and found that i got 3 pistons with broken ringlands. my sleeve were not even damage even i damgae 3 ringland.

I would still like the great Abaz or Beau to reply to this thread...

and the question still stands..can ringland damage be totally unnoticeable from the top? I would figure that the top or edges of the piston would show some kind of wear?

i say dump in some oil as well. lower the piston, measure where like 1/4cup of oil tops at. crank it up and down like twenty times, then measure again. when my block was out, i was screwing around and dumped in a bunch of oil with the block upside down. after cranking it a bunch of times, #2, 3, 4 had no oil leaking past the rings whatsoever. #1 had maybe like one or two drops. remember this with the whole skirt full of oil. even left it overnight.

anyways, oem headgasket sprayed with copper, and arp head studs i think are a must. when you got these all in, do a leakdown test. if somethings wrong, fix it and it isnt the end of the world if you reuse the gasket which never saw a hot start. brakclean sprays the copper spray right off.

Yes, a motor can look perfectly fine with a broken ringland. When I took mine apart it looked brand new. I didn't see the damage until I took out the piston. Most likely its the ringlands. Does the car shake at an idle?

the car runs on three cylinders at idle, so of course it shakes. I dont want to spend any more time/money on this cheapie d, so i'll throw it aside for another day and start work on.....
