I welde my own header with little welding experience...I started welding on cast iron en do some little stuff for practic and it all worked ...with an ARC welder and I made my manid with uglu welds, but it looks decent after some grinding and it is strong I thru it a few time on the ground to check and hit it several times with a hammer.

Yeah. I think I could get it done with a little practice. My dad has an arc welder that I could use. I didn't even know if this kind of thing was ok to do on one or if I'd need to locate a mig welder. I really don't even know the difference. I'll have to get someone local to show me the ropes on the actual welding part (and the suggestions above look like they will be very helpful), but I'm willing to take my time if it'll save me a ton of money, which it should. I know I can get the flanges from BmC. But where can I locate the pipe, and what sizes (diameter pipe and bend radius) should I use for my d16? Is this the kind of thing I would just ask for at a exhaust shop, or a special pipe-getting place? I probably sound silly, but I really don't know where to start - especially with the Ts. I'm glad someone posted on this topic since I've been looking hard for a mani for about a week now.
Thanks

I personally didn't worry about warpage. I was using a small welder so I wanted to keep the heat in the part as much as possible, they recommend pre-heating for the best strength in the results. I also figured it would kind of heat treat the manifold, therefore less likelihood of cracking later on.
Yes it did warp, but I was planning on taking it to the machine shop for resufacing anyways.

Well, I found a welder who will send me a mild steel tubular mani for $200 (TIG welded I believe). I was just wondering, how do mild steel manifolds hold up in comparison to stainless. I'm not worried about rust, and he will paint it anyway. I just don't want to worry about cracking. He has it because someone backed out on buying it. If mild steel isn't deemed durable enough, I can get a ss mani from him for $230 - log style, but I'd like the tubular one if it should hold up. I know this is slightly off topic, but still close! And I figured guys on this topic would know this kinda thing.
