whats up i just picked up another turbo today a garrett not sure what though but when i was pulling it off there was oil coming from where the filter would go whats up with this i bought it anyhow cause i got it REAL cheap any info?

 

What car did you pull it off of, and what engine are you planning on putting it onto?

And by the way, the "oil coming from where the filter should go" thing is NOT good... got pics?

 

pulled it off another grand am and it was going on my d series but still deciding what to do so no one knows whats up with the oil thing ? why it would be comming out of that inlet where the filter hooks up at? wonder if jeff ever had this prob

No thats not a T-25? T25's only came on usdm 2g DSM's and JDM Sr20det's


Grand am turbos I belive have a inlet T3 flange,

If it has oil coming anywhere from the compressor or exhaust side of the turbine, the turbos seals are probably worn and blowing oil out. The turbo will more than likly need a rebuild.

Why dont u read the little plate thats on the middle cartridge....every turbo has it and it will give u not just the turbo family, (T3 and what-not) but also its trim as well....

 

im not worried about what kind it is im just wondering why its leaking oil out of the little turbine wheel on the inlet side and does anyone have an estimite on a rebuild cant i just replace the seals?

 

seals and bearings run about $100 for most turbos. they come as a kit. I didn't even know the grand ams had turbos.

 

yep sure do 4 door too and i picked up another one of a caravan! lol te03 mitsu sweet too no shaft play good condition just thought i would share
