Possible to use small wastegate on stock Holset turbo wastegate flapper?
Has anyone modded a smaller wastegate (i.e. one from an eclipse turbo) to work with the stock wastegate flapper on the holset turbo?
I have an HX35W and would like to utilize the stock internal wastegate. I figured I could some how bolt up one from a smaller turbo allowing me to run about 10 psi without spending the $200 for an external.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Chris

Most people doing this also cut down the split turbine tang a little bit, since it acts as a wall between inner runner and outer runner where the wastegate aperture is. Make sure you port off the sharp edges of the aperture while you're in there, to help promote flow when the actuator opens the flapper.
Sounds good. Does anyone know of a wastegate that has a strait arm? The 2nd gen eclipse actuator I have has a curved arm and is causing me some problems.
Thanks

make sure you cut the divider out at least a few inches. port the wastegate hole open as much as you can, clean up the short side radius and you should be ok. I did this to mine and it would hold a solid 17psi with the stock actuator. but around 22-23 psi it would start to creep to 25psi. real fun though.
