Default Piston to wall clearance (vitara)

putting together another engine... vitaras in a y8. Piston to wall clearance in the y8 block at .003" Honda spec is .0006-.0016 with .002 being the service limit. But this is for stock pistons? The vitaras are still cast so im guessing the block needs an overbore.

can anyone post up their piston to wall clearances in their vitara setup??

Vitaras are smaller than Honda pistons......so they'll rattle a bit.

If your concerned get oversized pistons and have the block bored.

so .003" is too much?? Kinda figured that would be the outcome.

Yes. If the largest gap reccomended is .0016 then .003 is almost double that.

mine rattle like a pissed diesel in the morning when i start it up. but after it warms up you can tell the pistons expand a bit and it quiets right up.

they are fine...mine measured the same...and i think we all know how well they worked for me :P

but yea they do sound like a deisel truck warming up but once they are hot they sound like any other forged piston...i had a friend with cp's in his car and they sound identical...you couldnt tell who had what pistons in there car from the sound of the idle.....

i had the head off one time and there was some slight scarring on the walls but nothing i could feel with my finger nail...and that was with about 7k miles on the build...we were very concerned with the piston to wall clearance as well but i think its only an issue on cold start up. the vitaras seem to expand nicely and fill the gap.
