Default Piping size upstream of the turbo?

My turbo (DSM T25) has a 2" inlet. I would like to run 2" intake piping and a 2" cone filter unless there is a reason to up-size it and then reduce it right at the turbo. Thoughts? Opinions? Wild *** guesses?

well,I would only run 4" piping on that turbo,
spool time will be great!

you'll regret it running 2" piping.
probably wont even spool

Lets think about this. I have two pieces of equipment:
1) a 4" diameter garden hose with a 2" outlet.
2) a 2" garden hose with a 2" outlet.

Which flows more water?

Well that's the question, isn't it. My gut feeling is they flow the same in steady state, but that the 4" might have slightly better dynamic response since the 2" reduction would have a ready supply of fluid behind it. On the other hand, the reduction could introduce turbulance, which would not be present with a 2" intake track the entire length.

Your thinking about it too hard. It's a DSM t-25. Just get a 2 to a 2.5 coupler and put a 2.5 cone air filter on it. Done.

If you want to think of it in terms of flow and ----. If you have a bigger pipe then you'll have a bigger filter. A bigger filter will have more surface area on it which lets air flow through it better than a small filter. The piping size really won't do much in terms of performance.

Many people go bigger because you can't find many filters that are 7" in diameter with a 2" coupler. I'd go with a 2.5" and a silicone reducer. Or a new turbo, t25's are rediculous on a 2.0L.
