The guy seems to think (it sounds) as if the log manifold had something to do with it. Since I'm not going to be running a log manifold, I wonder how much this really can be applied to any setup, even without a log manifold.

Here's the original thread:

Yeah he's saying that this type of gain is only for log manifolds. He says he sees very little hp difference with EL manifolds and 3 inch exhausts

equal length manifolds and 3 inch exhausts allow the exhaust to flow more freely so it's not just hanging out in the exhaust ports hoping that some boosted intake air will blow it out.

the only real way to tell what cam settings are best for you is to get on a dyno and see what works.

warrick, I don't know how much cooling will be going on by flushing the exhaust all the way out, think about the use of egrs, they didn't say "hey, let's see what we can do to kill power, let's throw exhaust in the intake" they did it to cool the intake since if you have ambient exhaust gasses sitting in the cc taking up room you have less space for air/fuel mixture, so there is less of a burn, and less heat produced.

the target audience of that statement was not you, it was the same type of people that come in here and ask how to mold a body kit on and how to turbo their geo.

I understand how and why EGR is effective, but what I was trying to get through was not strictly the clearing of exhaust gas, but of a small portion of the charged air actually absorbing some heat from the cylinder before being expelled out of the exhaust.

air doesn't absorb heat very well, the fuel would absorb most of any heat that gets absorbed. this is why water injection is so effective, the water is capable of absorbing alot of heat because it requires so much energy to turn it to steam.

I should have used engineering terms: the thingamagic takes the whatchumacallit and so on, you get the rest.
