Well, I added cooling lines to my HMT today. Was kind of a nightmare because the fit is super tight and I had a hell of a time getting everything aligned right and getting rid of exhaust leaks, etc...

Anyway, temp is cool and everything sounds ok, but the spool time seems slower than it was. I was spooling up to 6.5# by 3,500RPM and now it's closer to 4,000 to 4,500RPM. I kind of had to mess with the wastegate a little to get it to fit, but what else would cause slow spool? I'm guessing IC pipe leaks (which there is a gasket I want to redo) but could an exhaust leak cause slow spool time? I really didn't mess with or diconnect any of the vaccuum lines, so they should be as tight as they were originally. Would adding water lines change anything internally on the turbo?

 

im guessin its the wastegate man. im guessin its internally wastegated? i think u must of bent the rod the wrong way so its opening too soon and ur gettin worse turbo lag. hope that helps.

It is internally wastegated with an adjustable arm. I tried to be careful about not screwing/unscrewing it, but I suppose it's possible it might've turned a little either way. ----. I've had it off twice today and I'm not interested in doing it again. Maybe I'll just roll with it and see what happens.

I am going to redo a IC gasket. WOuld a small exhuast leak between the downpipe and the turbo cause any spooling problems?

Oh yeah, one more thing that kind of freaked me out... When I first started my car after putting the lines in, I had a little water shoot out of the exhaust when I revved it. I'm sure this is normal, but what would it mean if I had a lot of water?

 

i think u need a restrictor or somethin on ur water lines i forgot what it was. ur probly gettin too much water to ur turbo and its goin out the seals. good luck

 

The center section doesn't see water at the shaft. It in a jacket. It has nothing to do with it spooling.

 

First question...no, very little. Second question, this is condesation in the motor and exhaust (totally normal, more common to low mile cars, but normal)...there is no way for the water that is running though the turbo to get to the exhaust unless the ENTIRE center section is cracked, and you would have other problems that would make ALOT more noise at that point...and it certainly wouldn't boost at all.
