I would definitely say it's a dynamic seal like their e-mail suggested it would be. However, I cannot tell why it failed other than the clip being QUITE loose around the shaft. It is not damaged at all, it's just very loose.
Thoughts as to what might cause this assuming it's not supposed to be this way? I can get pictures if it would help.

Well, I got the seal in and foolish me, didn't notice it was for the compressor side when the one I really need is the exhaust (hopefully).
Can someone tell me what the exhaust side seal would be called? I don't see a dynamic seal for the exhaust on eBay.
