noob to the whole FI
 

this is my first question WASTGATE LOCATION i have a manifold with no external wasgate hook up. Im using a t3/t4 turbo which has to use an external wastgate. here are my thoughts can i put the wastgate after the turbo in the exhaust pipe???? i have no room in the enginge bay to put the external wastegate in the manifold. the car is a 92 BMW 325is with the M50 2.5l engine. any help will help im in need of a Megasquirt stand alone but need help with the tune thanks

You must not understand how a wastegate works. It will divert exhaust gas flow AROUND your turbine housing to keep your boost at the desired level instead of running maximum boost all the time. In order to do this, the wastegate has to be located before the turbo.

no you cannot put the wastegate after the turbo in the downpipe. it will not serve its purpose as a wastegate or anything else.

best thing to do is weld a elbow on the manifold for the wastegate,.

Haha, prepare dude.


All manifolds have WG plates before the turbo, hence bypassing the turbo to relieve exhaust gases.

my manifold is made for an internal WG. so all i need to do is put a pipe in the manifold so the WG is before the turbo this is going to be very interesting and a bit$h. i get it better it wouldnt do a thing in the exhaust pipe. back to the location should it go in a single pipe that come off the head or were the six pipes meet

the best place to put it is where all 6 runners meet. where cuts exhaust from the turbo at once.

you are gonna have to install it on the car, and find the best spot that you can mount the wastegate so you can also use a dumptube, that manifold looks like something made by xs-power and usually have a shitty ass collector, and cheap thin material will be difficult to drill the hole because of the lack of collector, but its possible.
if you don't know what you are doing don't do it, turbocharging is more than just bolting on a turbo.

i thought all the bmw manis were individual flanges per cylinder
