blackmagic212 03-11-2009 06:48 PM

threads like this come up everyday...rape the search button

type garrett turbos in wikipedia and your answer is there

jinxd 03-11-2009 06:52 PM

ya i did like a 100 times..and people put so much useless info onto the internet its hard to decifer, and half the ---- goes back to ebay haha

Scott-EP 03-11-2009 07:21 PM

i have CDM T3/T04E turbos for $210 shipped. it will more than meet your goals and come with a 1 year warranty.

i have one on my own car with 1k miles so far. it made 310whp @15psi on a z6 with stock cam.

Raze 03-11-2009 09:06 PM

Depends on your setup but my buddies and I slapped a Holset diesel turbo on our Ford 2.3 Turbo motor in our XR4Ti, 30psi no sweat and even thought it's not 'rated' for gasoline EGTs, it's fine after quite a bit of abuse. 1 down side is that it's designed to never run vacuum so some oil pushes through the seal no matter what you do leading to some oil blowby in the turbo, but since it's not ball bearing no worries about it wearing out, and its much more forgiving in terms of tolerances, and they're cheap as dirt, specially now that the bottom has fallen back out of the diesel turbos, most of the HY35/HX35 series go barely-medium used for around $200.

One last thing, they aren't as well behaved as a street turbo as the their boost curve is scary when it comes on, ours pushes the last 15psi in just a few hundred rpm which makes it hairry, good thing it's a dedicated track car, just my .02

jinxd 03-11-2009 09:40 PM

haha hairy huh...my car has on it now a ghetto ass setup i think..perfect for HMT...but i wanna do it right...it actually has a catterpiller diesel turbo i think?? it say CAT on it and nothing else?? but it spools crazy fast..idk the size or anything doesnt say anywhere on it...and me not having info on it drives me crazy

B16Drag 03-12-2009 01:17 AM

AirResearch turbos work just fine. But if you truly have a fully built motor with sleeves and the works, you might want to look into some of the nicer turbos whether ball bearing or not... I say look into the T3/T4 57 trim turbos.

x2. why put all that money in your motor and rock a lunkyard turbo? if your motor IS what you say it is, might as well opt for a decent turbo. t3/t4 57trim at least.

jinxd 03-12-2009 05:25 PM

yes, thank u the last 2 posts...thats pretty much what i was askin when i started this thread...i didnt know what the deal with that was, im just gonna man up and buy good ----!! and yes my motor is what i say it is...i just dont know jack bout turbos yet

jinxd 03-12-2009 09:01 PM

also its hard to justify droppin a 1000+ beans for a sick turbo

Tacos 03-13-2009 12:14 AM

Garrett, AirResearch and Honeywell are the same!

I have a T3/T4 on my '91. Can't wait to K-swap it. That ole B18 will be built for the '00!

T3/T4 what? That's such a generic statement since there's many variations of the combination, might be good to say what size and trim.

I personally like the good old Garrett T3/To4E 50 Trim. It has a good range, high pressure ability, perfect for a low-compression motor looking to make good power. However for a stock Honda motor I won't recommend it simply because in order to get the flow you want to make your power goal, you'd have to run a pretty high pressure rating. In your case the standard Garrett T3/T04e 57 Trim would be a much better choice, allowing for higher flow rates but at a much lower pressure ratio than the 50 Trim. And I hate to say it, but I've been seeing quite a few of the ebay 57 Trims being balanced for a change so that they actually last a decent while, so the choice is really up to you.

Tacos 03-13-2009 06:03 PM

Garrett T3/T04E 57trim.

Been looking into the Holset HX35s lately for the K build

jinxd 03-13-2009 08:13 PM

so u all are sayin rock a sloppy ebay turbo?? whats equivalent to a g35r?? is there even anything?? like i said im new to this ----, questions may be dumb but i wont ask twice!!

Tacos 03-14-2009 12:08 AM

I'm not putting an eBay turbo on my cars, I want to have 100% faith in my parts and replacing them cause I was to cheap to buy them from a reputable source isn't cutting it.

two weeks ago this post would have caused:

the most personal information that could be found on you by secret investegators (buk) and exploited publicly until you cried.

somebody would have showed up at your house within a week to beat the ever living ---- out of you (jay and silent bob strike back style)

and you would be ------- banned and laughed at.

Tacos 03-14-2009 10:58 PM

You take your shoes off when entering someone else house don't you? You put gas in a borrowed car don't you? you wear a rubber to ---- a buddies GF right? Well on HMT, if your a noob, all they ask is you POST SOME ------- PORN.

hot girls, but not porn.

and as stated, its not so much the porn we care about as following rules that have been around here for a very long time. longer than you have had homo dreams of k swaps

Tacos 03-15-2009 11:16 AM

Yeah I meant to post porn, but something about not posting any until someone shows me where that rule is printed came back to mind...

Until then No.

In a word, no.
New to hmt, my first project, after a lotta research, was to charge my 1.6 sohc Mazda powered Ford asfire. In addition to posting pics of that "completed project" I posted the "tacos in need of a razor". I'm also thinking I may be wanting to charge a ford 2.0 zetec later this year. Think ZX3 focus...

Scott-EP 03-15-2009 06:58 PM

i always wondered if anyone messed with those cars. i have a lot of retarded stories that start out "we were in this ford aspire" that was before i really started messing with cars. i only fixed cars back then, didnt make them faster
