A given compressor flows X amount of horsepower. Regardless of what psi it occurs at. Regardless of what CR your engine is. There's a small variance in what X amount is depending on system dynamics, but not enough to worry about.

Fiddling CR will just trade off between spool time and knock limit.

wouldnt you still be able to run lower boost/spool quicker/more torque with high compression lower boost

And lose a large threshold of safety, sure. Go for it. Sort of like the stock H22 piston has a bad rep for weak ringlands... they aren't. The H22 just has a lower knock limit than B-series, less safety margin, and it's pretty easy to shatter ringlands to flinders.

V8's are known for gobs of midrange torque - add boost + you are golden. You really going to worry about a few extra ft/lbs "per psi" when you can just up the boost on a lower CR setup, make the same power, and have more margin for error? It's all in the compressor.

but depends which v8 you'e talking about

302, 350, 327, 305, 4.6l, 301 ext... arent exactly torque monsters... for a street car a little compressoin would be a good thing i think

more than 8:1 i would say

I figure that the compression is not very much higher than stock (9.2 vs 9.0) so that is not a big deal. But in comparison, dropping down to less than 8 to 1 may have a negative impact. This should be a pretty mild combination anyway.
