Default New manifold and cant contol boost????


Okay I have a few questions.

First, I had a cast drag manifold and when I took it to the dyno they said that it was causing really bad boost creep due to the wastegate placment being on number 4 cylinder. So I bought a medussa style mani fold and slapped it on and pu a new 3inch downpipe with a 3 1/4 catback. I got it all on and went for a good test run. When I had the other manifold I had boost set to 10psi (turboXS manual boost controller.) The test run I pegged the boost gauge at 20psi and the needle kept going ! So I get back to the house and turn the boost controller down. It Hit like 17psi. I went back I turned the boost controller all the way down. Still hit 17psi. I took the boost controller completly out just to run off the wastegate spring of 8psi. Still hit 17psi! I cannot get it to go below 17psi. When I had the boost controller set to zero and even without the boost controller I would get on the car and it would go to about 11psi as soon as you hear the wastegate open it goes up to about 17psi. The waste gate opens right after Vtec which is about 9-11psi. Why wont it turn down. Is the wastegate causing boost creep (turbonetics deltagate.)


The second question is one I have asked here and never got a clear answer. When I am in gear no matter what RPM and I let the car downrev while in gear. When I push the gas pedal again a cloud of smoke comes out of the exhaust. The cloud it blue and it smells like oil? WTF!?! I cant figure it out. Is the seals in the turbo going bad. Piston rings, valve seals?? What the hell could it be?

3 1/4 inch stainless steel mandrel bent cat back

micropolished crank knife edged
Stock sleves
SS ferra valves
skunk 2 springs and retainers
stock b16 cams
skunk 2 cam gears
MSD external coil
MSD digital 6 box W/ two step

The setup doest even have 9k miles on it yet.

You have a built motor and you want less then 17? Why?

How do you have a built motor and not know how to use a boost controller/wastegate and diagnose smoking? You need to make sure the wastegate has the correct spring, is getting a good vacuum source and has good placement to prevent creeping. As far as smoking goes you need to do a compression check and then figure it out.

I dont want that much right now because I am only tuned for ten pounds. Just cause the motor is built to stand up to that boost doesnt mean that I want to go run it all day long like that and chance blowing it up.

the main problem is that when it is boosting that high everything is fine until the wastegate opens and it goes to 17psi. Then the car starts to cut out and will not go. The guy that tuned the car said that he put a boost cut on there cause the last mani was causing such bad boost creep. am i still hiting that or what?

When the wastegate opens the boost goes up? that doesn't make sense to me

i cant really follow your post. To be honest, you dont sound like you did enough homework to have a setup like that. the wastegate closes to increase the boost, and the wg hole on a rev mani is on the #1 cylinder. Smoking on decel is usually valveseals. I cant imagine what would make something run past the spring in the gate

i knew the first time i saw one on a friends car that it wouldnt control high boost. he kept saying it was fine and it was the bleed valve that had his turbo surging. I was like dude, its venting 1 cylinder ?

Okay so you are right I am a real big noob at this whole boost thing. I cheated and I bought my friends car. I thought that coming on here was the solution to problems like mine and me (being a noob)

Yes as soon as the wastegate actuates at about 10psi the boost goes up. You can hear the wastegate actuate. As soon as you hear this noise the boost levels jump to 17 and the car cuts and sputters and will not go above 7000rpms. It is like it is hitting boost cut. I have tried just going about a 1/4 throttle into vtec then nailing the throttle as soon as the boost hits 10psi you hear the wastegate open and it bogs and cuts and sputters.

Oh and the car doesnt smoke on decel it is upon reacceleration!
