Default New here. Need some help.

Hi, i have been using the search function to try and find the answer to my question, but im only getting mixed reviews.

First off, my car is a 1999 Acura 1.6EL, with 145,000km. The engine is a d16y8, and I have an auto tranny. For a while now i have been researching different things to do to my car, and turbo is the last thing on my list.

Second, what do i want to do with my car? Drive. Thats it. I dont plan to race. Its just a daily driver that I want to have more power. Seeing as its an auto tranny, and i rarely go above 3500 RPM's, so i'm assuming i would need a quick spooling turbo. Btw side question, when a turbo spools at 3500 does that mean it starts making power at 3500, or it makes FULL power at 3500.

Third, what do i want to achieve? Maybe 180-200 would be nice at 6-8 psi (is that reasonable). Just so i can get a little kick out of driving it, plus i need more power down low.

Fourth, what is my budget? Probably around $2000. Not enough for a decent swap, good turbo kit, or all motor. That's why im here, maybe i can build something, hopefully it will end up in the form of a turbo :P

So in conclusion, I would like a recommendation as to which turbo would best suit my application. Just to show that i have done research, I have been looking at the IHI RHB5, and the T25. Also, and this is important, is it safe to boost my car at 145,000km?

Thats it for now, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

well, if you want to make more power, I would start by taking the engine past 3500 rpm... cause in order to make boost, you really have to go wide open throttle and haul ***.... otherwise it just looks nice and doesn't do anything besides make noises and add weight.

turbos can make full boost at 3500 or some start spooling (building) boost at 3500... depends on which one you go with.

no one can tell you wether or not you car is safe to boost, but milage is just a number. If it is healthy and has good compression, you will be okay. I don't know about the IHI, but I am putting the t25 on my d16z6 here in about a week. I was just going to ghetto it on, but lately have been spending alot of money on parts to make it look better and be more efficeint.

well if i were you. My first project before I would turbo the car. I would convert the auto to a manual. Many of the smaller turbo starts to spool around the 3000 rpm. So if you planning to not drive past 3500 rpm. Then there is no point to boost. My car has 210k mileage and it still sees boost with no problem. Management is your key to success to higher boost.

Thanks for bringing up the topic of auto to manual. I have recently been looking at the Level Ten Shiftronic. It's a bit expensive, but only 1/3 the cost of a swap. I tried doing some research on it but their doesnt seem to be that much info. Am i to understand that with this product i will have full control of my auto tranny? I can downshift and upshift whenever i want? It's sounds really cool but is this product any good?

Well i was actually contemplating an ls vtec. However if i were to do one, i definatly would not half *** it. I have heard about its reliability issues if proper steps aren't taken. I can get a b16 head and ls bottom for about a grand. Then i would buy the golden eagle lsvtec kit, about $200-300. Then water pump, fuel pump, timing belt etc, about $500 i figure. Then i still need to get headers and exhaust, prolly another $500. And then i have to install and tune it. More like a $3000 total. Oh i didn't include a tranny yet. I still think for the power output its worth the money, and i would do the swap but I don't have around $3500
As for turboing, I'm still open to suggestions on what turbo would best suit me.
Thanks.

its very doable, just start out with a complete swap and either buy an LS short block or a b16 head depending on which swap you get

golden eagle can suck a fat dick, get an oil line kit from Stealthmode

For you I would suggest a JR supercharger. Should fulfill your needs.

If it were me, I would do an auto to manual tranny swap and an hmt turbo setup. a/c compatible since you probably have a/c.

i got my trans and all the parts for like $200. I got a new clutch, but the stock one was included in the original price.
