Default New custom home made twin charged kit....

Well it was a LONG!!!! time in the making and or planning... to many numbers and charts and more numbers and 100's of calculations later and i have a sucsessfull atempt at Twin charging my 2.4L.... It started out as the GM supercharger kit and drove that for about 10months, had some fun with it... pushed it to its limits, then saw a Twin charged SS cobalt at the Sema Show... and since then i started this project... Every thing in conjunction with the turbo is all custom made... only things bought from a shop were the Turbo (obviously) and intercooler... every thing else was fabed up by me or my old man in our garage... now this wasnt the most chanaling install we have done on a car but it did take a fair amount of time
I have had this on the road now for about 1000kms.... but i am still running on my GM s/c'er computer reflash and 310cc injectors... so i can only do %50 throttle max... and have to keep an eye on my boost/knock gauge.... and i can only run her up to about 5-6psi before i can feel the injectors maxing out and knock going a bit high.... so i have not been able to rip on her yet but the amount i can feel is VERY NICE!!! the one time i did his about 10-12psi of boost... i hit it at around 1600rpm.... and thats with the 3.0" supercharger pulley helping spool it... which is 2 sizes bigger then what came stock with the s/c'er.... So i am now in the proses work working with the By pass to have it go as normal so i build boost instantly like normal with the s/c'er but have it open back up after a set boost level so that i dont get any more heat from the s/c'er and then it would be all turbo for the top end.... as the air would be passing the rotors on the s/c'er and just acting like a normal intake manifold... (a guy with a civic did this so he is helping me out with it)... But as far as tuning goes im going once my intercooler is in and the plan is just to tune my stock computer and sell the GReddy eManage unit.... and then run 10psi into the engine as the Turbo waste gate is reading whats going into the engine (so after the s/c'er) so it is constantly changing at the turbo to maintain the 10psi into the engine....

... any way the specs are:
Engine:
-62mm throttle body
-Custom made Log style manifold
-RK sport Upper and Lower engine mounts
-Custom 2.5" down pipe
-Custom 3" down exhaust with electric cut out just after the Down pipe
-GM supercharger (Eaton)
-Custom made Intake
-SMC alcohol injection
-Spec Stage 3 clutch
-Spec Aluminum Flywheel
-Quaife Limited Slip differential
-Garrett T3/TO4E 60 trim turbo
-Tial 38mm wastegate
-HKS SSQ blow of valve
- 31"x6"x3" front mount intercooler
-custom turbo manifold/charge pipes
-440cc injectors
-GReddy eManage (maybe be up for sale soon)

now on to the pictures....

Before: supercharger only

After

Old intercooler.... to tall..

yes lots of couplings... just for mock up.

Black part at the end was from a first attempt at a 3" down pipe which didnt work out... but had fitting to connec to the exhaust

alittle messy... still cleaning things up, but this was the finished product

Look like good fab work, how does it hook up on the street? I couldn't imagine a twin charged FWD drive car could keep traction without slicks....Also, how long does it take to spool that turbo?

yep its running... only i rip on it hard yet since im still on the GM s/c'er re-flash with 310cc injectors which max out around 220-230whp... and i can feel them maxing out around 5-6psi of boost... so once i get my 440cc injectors in and tuned im good for 10psi which from other guys with just turbo's on their 2.4L's are pushing around 280whp.... which isnt bad for a start... but you know its only going up from there... already ordering Forged rods, forged crank, 9:1 pistons ect.... and going to boost it to 20-22psi... which should be good for 400whp.... if not the boost is going up untill i hit the 400hp but from numbers and other dynos... 22psi should give me the 400hp i want...

looks solid but 10 psi wont get you 280whp especially on that crusty 2.4 ld9

well that is a guess obviously... but my guess is probably close... as i am maxing out the 310cc injectors at 5psi of boost and they max out ar 220-230whp... also i am going off of every one else i know who has a turbo 2.4L at different boost levels but 280whp isnt going to be far off from what every one else is dynoing at.... and if 5psi is giving me say 220whp.... from 130whp stock im sure 5psi more is going to get me pretty damn close to the 280whp mark....

eh, i dunno. we built peteys cavy with the 2.4 ---- and at 10 psi it wasnt 280whp ill tell you that,. and his kit was one of the most solid kits ive seen on a cavalier.

we had that ---- minty. i woulda guessed 240whp tops.
